I've been thinking about food. Any food in particular? Eggs. What about them? Well, we ate them. Yes, delicious. I know, but really, isn't that like eating a baby? No, not at all. But it's got the potential to be a baby, you know, an egg. They're unfertilised. They wouldn't have sold them if they were fertilised. So let's start. You should be standing at the archway that leads into the space. Go through it, turn left, and you'll find the first workstation. We're going to explore the idea of mindful looking. Stand in front of the artwork, feet shoulder length apart. Notice the sensations of your feet flat on the floor. Set yourself the intention to focus on the artwork for the next three minutes and to return your attention every time it wanders off from it. What colours do you notice? What shapes, textures, lines can you see?

Yes, well, this is where I am, technically speaking. Don't look so serious, dear. We Ashkens have always been quite comfortable with the crypt. I picked my spot myself. Lovely view of the ouse, and it is rather peaceful. But I must say, I much prefer the garden.

Script:
Consider this painted book illustration from the 19th century called The Order of Chivalry. In it, St George saves the princess with small dog in tow. Behind the main action is a majestic castle. If you look closely, you can see two onlookers in the castle windows. They watch the scene at a distance, almost echoing the way we, as viewers, take in the battle from a safe place. Nearby is an illustrated page created by William Morris from an 18th century medieval book. How many fairy tales do you recognise here, and why do they all seem to take place in the Middle Ages?

Script:
Once the cartoons were completed in 1516, they were sent to Brussels to the workshop of Peter van Alst, a leading weaver of the time. There, the weavers used the cartoons as templates to follow. The weaving process would destroy the original cartoons, and so the weavers needed to make duplicates to use on the looms. They placed blank sheets of paper of equal sizes below each cartoon, and pierced the outlines of the seams through both paper layers. This created copies, maps of dots which were joined together to form line drawings of the designs.

A year passed without any further catastrophe, and they were beginning to hope their ghastly visitors had left them, when something else occurred. It was Easter time, and Ernest, his wife and baby, were staying with them. The baby, a boy, was fat and bonny, the very picture of health and happiness. Mrs. Whittington and Martha vied with one another in their devotion to him, and either one or other of them was always dancing attendance on him. It so happened that one afternoon, whilst the servants were having their tea, Martha found herself alone in the upper part of the house with her nephew. And it seemed to Martha, as she sat there and peered out into the garden, that over the whole atmosphere of the place had come a subtle and hostile change. A slight noise attracted Martha's attention to the room, she looked round, and was quite startled to see how dark it had grown. In the old days, when she had scoffed at ghosts, she would as soon as been in the dark as in the light, the night held no terrors for her. But since those awful occurrences last year, all was different, and as she peered apprehensively about her, her flesh crawled. What was there, in that corner opposite, that corner hemmed in on the one side by the cupboard and the chest of drawers on the other? What was a shadow? Only a shadow, but of what? She searched the room everywhere to find its material counterpart, and at last discovered it in the nurse's shawl, which was hung over the back of a chair. Then she laughed, and would have gone on laughing, for she tried to persuade herself that laughter banished ghosts, when suddenly, something else caught her eyes. What was it? An object that glittered evilly like two eyes. She got up in a state of the most hideous fascination and walked towards it. Then she laughed again. It was a pair of scissors. The nurse's scissors. Clean, bright, and sharp. Why did she pick them up and feel the blades so caressingly with her thumb? Why did she glance from them to the baby? Frightful ideas laid hold of her mind. She tried to chase them away, but they quickly returned. The scissors. Why were they in her fingers? Why could she not put them down? For what were they intended? Cutting, cutting thread, and tape, and throats.

Script:
I started out as a voyeur to creativity. I was schooled in storytelling and had an instinct for something greater than a corporate life of meaningless mission statements. But it wasn't until I witnessed true designers, animators, illustrators, and writers in action. Only then did I understand the beautiful chaos behind the art. I watched. I observed. I drank it in like Dionysus on a bender, the awe-inspiring articulation of a beautifully written word. How a stylus floats above a tablet when illustrative magic takes shape on screen. The convictions of these weird and wonderful creatures propelled by furious angels to create. Slowly, over time, I found myself one of them. And it changed my life. But creativity isn't just the purview of starving artists and storytellers. It's so much more democratic than that. It's for everyone. Yes, everyone. It's ageless, timeless, and favors all stripes. Much to my surprise and pleasure, I discovered that to be creative is more of a state of mind than a specific skill. A will to choose the path. Like exercise, creativity acts as an endorphin. It elevates. It intoxicates. It transforms. But, unlike a transitory moment, creativity leaves behind a legacy greater than oneself. And isn't that the point to human existence? Anyone can tap into that electricity and light up their world, whether it's in one's work or as a personal exercise, whether it's a masterpiece or a quiet ripple in the universe. Plus, creative thinking is more critical now than ever, whether it's to keep your mind curious and mentally agile or to outwit the coming robot army. It's time to tap into your wonderfully unique weirdness and contribute to the human story arc. I'm here to show you the path.

These men were seemingly nice men, friendly, funny, and they appeared to genuinely enjoy looking after the families who ate with them. I remember them smiling and laughing all the time, and I distinctly remember liking them both, which I later found very confusing. On this particular evening, a week or so into our holiday, the owner and his brother took me from my parents, my mother and my stepfather, as he had done on other occasions whilst they were eating, and we'd walked off into the warm night with a few other children. There are lots of reasons to write. You might want to tell a story, create something beautiful, express yourself or share your knowledge, or you might just enjoy the act of writing itself. All those reasons are fine, but copywriting is something else.
